I can’t say enough good things about this marvelous couple. Aaron + Mary Alice booked their wedding photography about 6 months before their big day. They came over to my house so we could chat, snack, and get to know each other. We talked about their sweet history together, like how they met serendipitously and their fun proposal story by a well known statue in Houston. We also talked about their rescue pup Eddie and how they’d be incorporating themselves into their wedding day. Mexican food was a MUST, and so was buying their cakes from their favorite Houston bakery, Moeller’s Bakery. They also wanted to incorporate their favorite drinks at the bar, serving a “His and Hers” signature drinks for their guests.

When their big day rolled around, it was so special and so beautiful. They married at St. Anne Catholic Church with their reception at River Oaks Garden Club Forum just down the street. It was a perfect fall day filled with the best flowers + decor, the best music, and certainly the best people. Here is an excerpt from our Aaron + Mary Alice’s publication on Wedding Sparrow:

This was hands down an amazing tribute to our favorite city, but more importantly a wonderful reflection of them as a couple and their vibrant personalities. Both being native Houstonians, their wedding was steeped in tradition and homage to their roots. From the beginning the couple set out a vision that would highlight the best of what the city has to offer from native flora to a set of cakes from Houston’s best bakers. Furthermore, they wanted a laid back, family focused affair with a plethora of thoughtful details and a rocking’ party. Mary Alice and Aron love to dance, so they put a lot of thought into the musical choices and Mary Alice’s father even played in the wedding band! Planning their wedding was both nostalgic and heartwarming as there were many laughs over shared childhood memories including tennis lessons and after school cupcakes all of which came together in a beautiful celebration of their union. Their personalities really shine through all aspects of their day. Following their reception catered by one of Houston’s favorite Mexican restaurants, the two hit the dance floor and even ended the night with a tribute to their favorite city by dancing to Dean Martin’s, Houston! From the wedding planning book that her grandmother used, to Arron’s tennis themed groom’s cake, to antique Wedgewood vases the Mary Alice collects, and even a custom postage stamp featuring a portrait of their beloved dog, their wedding was truly a celebration of all of their favorite things and the city they choose to call home.

In my 10 years of shooting weddings, I’ve seen many, many, many bridal accessories. The highest quality bridal hair accessories I’ve ever seen are made by my good friend Erin. They are truly one of a kind and built to last. So today we’re taking an up-close and personal look at 3 organic + handmade headpiece accessories by the ever-talented Erin Rhyne. She’s just recently launched her newest collection, so now seemed like a great time to share these images we shot together.

If you haven’t yet heard me gush about Erin’s work before, please refer back to the many times I’ve done so by clicking here, here, or here. The three pieces she brought to this shoot are some of her larger pieces that she’s created and they were stunning. With hair and makeup by Adorne Artistry and a shooting location of The Creative Chateau, we had the perfect team for a fine art vision for Erin’s pieces.

The first look definitely reminds me of a springtime forest nymph. The colors and textures are so abundantly cheerful. All the while, I feel like the black and white images fit right in with the look. It’s a very versatile piece, and I love the dress that Erin paired it with. The second piece, a halo crown, was perfect with a black gown with exciting flared wrist embellishments. The monotone gold blooms were the perfect contrast to the gown. I also love the height that the second and third pieces have. The third piece is so avant garde and different. Such a cool addition to any bride’s style. Can you imagine a look this cool for a reception or rehearsal dinner? The stuff dreams are made of!

As always, thanks for making it to the bottom of the post. You get a gold star and a little bonus! Today’s bonus is a behind the scenes (and admittedly low quality) GIF. Let me set the scene: we’re shooting, having a great time, when we decided we needed some good tunes on. We went with Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack (because duh). My good friend Carla of Whisk Bakery was on site during the shoot and she brought us all chocolate chip cookies straight out of the oven. WHAT?! We danced, ate cookies, and had a grand old time. She’s a keeper!
