IN HOME FILM ENGAGEMENT SESSION IN AUSTIN, TEXAS
AUSTIN FILM PHOTOGRAPHER
I just can’t stand how much I love this session! So much authenticity and belly laughs. My favorite things.
Katie and Taylor are both artists, which is actually how I met Katie in the first place. We were both attending a photography workshop when we met, and we’ve been friends ever since. About a year ago, she decided to invest in a couple’s session with her husband Taylor. They were interested in a process-driven, in home film session to really represent who they are. Sure, couples sessions in a mutual location like a park or downtown can be great, but they were interested in capturing this season of their lives as realistically and representative of them as possible. In this case, that can only mean one thing- shoot in their home! The place where they spend the most time. Where they eat, sleep, and do most of their work.
When an engagement or couples session is at a couple’s home, I always encourage them to think up a couple of things they like to do together so we can capture that at their session. As you can see, they spent time reading together on the couch, drinking coffee, chatting, and snuggling. It doesn’t get more simple and laid back than that. I love that their home was adorned with travel photos Katie had taken and work they’ve purchased from artists across the country. Their home is so understated, peaceful, and cozy.
While we were shooting, we all chatted and laughed SO much. My favorite, favorite story was told by Taylor. He talked about how he and Katie first met in college, and it’s really quite a funny story. He told it while they were sitting at their kitchen table, sipping on their coffee. You’ll notice lots of laughing and smiling in those photos. I think I even had to take a minute to stop shooting to laugh. Good times. These are the kinds of things that make a session so good to me. Opening up, sharing moments with other humans, being vulnerable and putting yourself out there. It’s just an amazing feeling, connecting with other humans like that.
Anyways, this was definitely a very favorite session for me that I won’t forget anytime soon. If you’re looking for a session like Taylor & Katie’s head on over to my contact page and fill out the short form. Have a great weekend, y’all!
