AUSTIN FILM ENGAGEMENT SESSION
Texas film photographer
Family just makes everything better. I got so, so lucky and married into the best family. In fact, here’s another session I recently shot with my husband’s brother & his wife. These folks always make me just so happy. Here’s Brandon (my husband’s cousin) and Carolyn (his new wife, whose bridal session was on the blog last week). I love them so much! We took these engagement photos last summer before their December wedding in Galveston, Texas. We decided to photograph the engagement session in Austin, Texas where they met while attending University of Texas. They have the cutest story of how they met, all the way leading up to their first date. Hearing it will never get old.
When we were planning their engagement session, we decided that a portion of their session would be dedicated to retracing the steps of their first date. Their first date started at the park in the photographs with the Austin skyline. It’s called Town Lake Metropolitan Park. In true Austin fashion, Willie Nelson was just across the street opening up a rally for Beto O’Rourke, serenading us for the images at the park. They even sang ‘On the Road Again’ together. You cannot make this stuff up! It was pretty dang cool, and I will honestly never again be able to say that Willie Nelson serenaded an engagement session I photographed. I have peaked.
After the park, we headed to Amy’s Ice Cream (the one on 6th Street next to Lush, in case you were wondering) where their first date concluded. Brandon and Carolyn, please excuse me if I butcher this any, but the story goes: Brandon and Carolyn went in for ice cream. The dude behind the counter asks, “do you want this ice cream for free?” so obviously they’re like, “yeah!” So the guy says they have to catch it. Cool, no problem. So Brandon gets ready to catch the ice cream from across the counter, when the Amy’s Ice Cream dude tells them to follow him. He takes them outside and runs across the 4-lane street and asks Brandon if he’s ready, because the dude is going to throw the ice cream across 6th street and Brandon needs to catch it if he still wants it for free. So the Amy’s Ice Cream guy hurls a scoop of ice cream across the 4 lanes of traffic and Brandon sticks his bowl up in the air (not unlike Smalls from The Sandlot) and miraculously catches the ice cream. Everyone cheers, eats free ice cream, and it’s the beginning of a wonderful relationship. Little did they know that years later they’d return to the same spot for engagement photos!
