HOUSTON MICRO WEDDING

Shame on me for taking so dang long to blog this Houston micro wedding, because I loved every minute of this day. Steven and Summer met in the military at Fort Hood. They would be home for Christmas and had been engaged for some time, and had SO much on their plates: transitioning out of the army, moving, job hunting, and to top it all off, wedding planning. Whew!
Leading up to the wedding, I was so excited because Summer and I were emailing, she mentioned how many special details would be a part of their day. The wedding took place at Summer’s childhood home, a log cabin in Hockley, Texas. All of the jewelry she would be wearing were either her mother’s, grandmother’s, or great grandmother’s. They would be using her great grandmother’s china as the cake plates. Her father would be officiating. The gem wrapped around her bouquet was a special memento from a weekend away when Summer + Steven were dating. Summer’s mom make all of the food and decor for the day- check out that awesome arrangement at the ceremony. Just chock-full of so many meaningful family elements that would make the day that much more perfect for them.
When I pulled up on the day of the wedding, I found out that there would be 9 people at this wedding (including myself). NINE. When I walked into the home, I chatted with Summer’s father and his mom for about 15 minutes as the bride and groom arrived and the food/ cake was being set up for after the ceremony. If you know me, you know that THIS is my jam. People. Talking. Connecting. So Summer’s dad, who would be officiating, and grandmother and I talked about Las Vegas, The Mule with Clint Eastwood (which we agreed was SUCH a good movie), letting her grandson dye her hair blue, my dad (who has know Summer’s dad for 10+ years), and a couple other topics. That’s the thing about intimate, tiny weddings like this. You’re running the show. You’re not being confined to the rules of a normal wedding day timeline. If you want to sit and chat about The Mule with Clint Eastwood for 15 minutes, you should be able to sit and chat about The Mule with Clint Eastwood for 15 minutes! *I’ll update you in the next blog post if I end up getting any hits on my website from folks searching for the The Mule with Client Eastwood…
Then the work day got started (which very rarely feels like work for me). First I photographed some of their details, then an exchange of letters between the couple. It was a “first touch” when Steven + Summer held hands but stood around the corner from one another so they couldn’t see each other. My heart always races at this point- can you imagine how they must be feeling?! After that, we headed into ceremony, followed by cake-cutting, then portraits. I was there no more than 3 hours, but those were some very jam-packed with love 3 hours. You could just feel it radiating from Summer + Steven, Summer’s parents and grandparents, and Steven’s parents. AKA the entire guest list. It was such an honor to get to know and work for these fine folks.
